The Locust Grove City Council voted at its February 7 regular meeting to approve the issuance of $6.955 million in general obligation bonds. The move is in anticipation of expected revenue from the T-SPLOST referendum that was approved countywide last November, and will provide an additional one-percent sales tax to be used specifically for transportation projects.
Collections on that tax are expected to begin in a few months. Two separate votes were taken to approve the bond ordinance as well as the bond purchase agreement between the city and the underwriters, Raymond James & Associates.
In other business, the council voted to approve the final plat for the second phase of the Bunn Farms subdivision on Peeksville Road and South Ola Road. The plan calls for 133 single-family residential lots zoned R-2 on a 119-acre site that will include 60 acres of open space.
All houses will be at least 2,000 square feet if single-story and 2,200 square feet if multi-story. Lot size minimum is 18,000 square feet with a minimum lot width of 100 feet.
Two existing subdivisions were approved for streetlight districts: Flakes Mill subdivision on South Bethany Road, with 48 lots at an average cost of $23.65 per year per lot; and Cottage Grove subdivision on Davis Lake Road, with 44 lots at $103.50 per year per lot.
A veto of a previous rezoning denial failed, but an alternate request was approved. The council had voted in December to deny a request for M-2 zoning regarding 36.4 acres of multiple tracts. The applicant had requested M-2 but staff recommended M-1 instead.
The veto vote last week failed to reach five votes. A substitute motion to rezone the site to M-1 with conditions passed 4-3 with the mayor breaking the tie.
