Henry County Fire and Police Department units responded to an emergency water rescue call in the early morning hours of November 19.
Units arriving found two people that had been in a boat on a small pond behind 110 Hearthstone Drive in Stockbridge. The individuals reported that they had been in the boat with a third person who had not come out of the water after the boat had capsized.
One of the individuals was transported to Piedmont Henry hospital due to cold and hypothermic-related injuries. Henry County Fire Department units activated the HCFD Dive Team which responded to the scene. The team arrived and began a search of the water with boats, dive personnel and specialized equipment. A search area was designated, marked with buoys, and further operations were suspended until daylight allowing more personnel and equipment to be brought to the scene. Georgia Department of Natural Resources officers also assisted on scene.
Shortly after 8 a.m., the search resumed and at approximately 2:05 p.m., the victim’s body was found and recovered. The cause of and events leading up to the death are currently under investigation. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending proper notification of family members.
