A McDonough man will likely spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty to raping a 76-year-old woman.
Travale Farris, 29, entered guilty pleas September 16 to one count each of rape, aggravated sexual battery, kidnapping, false imprisonment, burglary, exploitation and intimidation of an elder person. Also included were three counts of criminal attempt to commit a felony, according to the Henry County District Attorney’s Office.
Farris entered the elderly victim’s apartment February 5 and sexually assaulted her, according to officials, who added that he also attempted to enter three other apartments at the complex. He was arrested after the McDonough Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division Special Victims Unit received a DNA match from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
As a result of his guilty plea, Farris was sentenced to 25 years in prison and will spend the rest of his life on probation. He also must register as a sex offender, have no contact with any of the victims and stay away from the Heritage at McDonough Senior Living Center.
“This was a horrific crime and we are grateful to bring justice for this survivor,” said Henry County District Attorney Darius Pattillo. “We wanted to ensure that Mr. Farris cannot harm any more of our county’s elderly population. Under this sentence, there is no possibility of parole and he must serve every day of that 25 years and continue to be supervised by officers for the rest of his life.”
