The Henry County Board of Commissioners convened June 29 in a special called meeting to consider proposed projects that could be funded by the T-SPLOST (transportation special purpose local option sales tax) that will be up for voter approval this fall.

County manager Cheri Hobson-Matthews gave a presentation to the board that looked at estimated revenues under two scenarios, with and without an intergovernmental agreement that would include the cities of Hampton, Locust Grove, McDonough and Stockbridge.

Major county roads under consideration include Hwy. 81, Bill Gardner Parkway, Jonesboro Road, Mill Road, McDonough Parkway, Rock Quarry Road and Fairview Road. Most of the work on these thoroughfares would be widening.

Project lists from the four cities were also shared during the meeting. Matthews said the T-SPLOST revenue could reach $245 million with an intergovernmental agreement and estimated a total of nearly $184 million without one.

Topics during the ensuing discussion among commissioners included the possibility of the East Atlanta Road extension being added to the list.

Matthews said she planned to bring the IGA before the board for approval July 7.
