On Thursday, March 11 the Henry County Animal Care and Control Department received a call that a raccoon had come into contact with a dog on 100 block of Pleasant Grove Rd. in McDonough, Georgia. The raccoon was taken to the Georgia Public Health Laboratory for rabies testing, and the results came back positive for the rabies virus.
The Henry County Animal Care and Control Department has issued a:
•45-day Rabies Alert, as required by the Georgia Rabies Control Manual
•For a half-mile area in and around the 100 block of Pleasant Grove Rd. in McDonough.
•During this alert, residents living within this area should make sure all their companion animals are up to date on their rabies vaccinations. Additionally, residents should be vigilant in monitoring the behavior of not only their own pets, but also of surrounding wildlife (e.g. foxes, skunks) that are acting in an unusual manner.
