On Friday, January 8 from noon until 1  p.m., The Georgia Archives’ Lunch and Learn live event will be available to the public through Microsoft Teams. Atlanta’s Healthcare History: The History of Early White and Black Hospitals and Medical Professionals will be presented by Victoria Lemos creator of the weekly podcast, Archive Atlanta.  The link to the live event is: https://tiny url.com/y7bk6er3

Victoria Lemos is a NY born and raised, child of immigrants, who grew up in a bi-cultural house. It was the duality of that world that sparked her interest in understanding how history and personal stories shape the way we experience our surroundings. After moving to Atlanta in 2007 for work, she began to explore the history that the Capital of the South had to offer, but wrongly assumed it would only be Civil War battles and Gone with the Wind. She stands corrected! Six years ago, she began volunteering as a walking tour guide, and then working as a bicycle tour guide four years ago. Somehow, that was not enough to spread her love of history, so in August of 2018, she launched her weekly podcast.

Archive Atlanta is a free podcast that covers the stories of Atlanta’s people, places, and events, and with over 100 episodes, there doesn’t seem to be a shortage in history to share.  Through the process of researching through episode content, she said she’s learned so much and met some amazing people. However, the best part of her journey has been receiving messages from locals sharing that the episodes prompted them to explore their neighborhood or venture out to other parts of the city they’ve never seen.

When Victoria is not head-first in books and newspaper archives, she works as a commercial property manager, is a wife, mother, and step-mother, and loves to trail run and ride her vintage Schwinn road bike.
