The Henry County Board of Education and school district leaders cut the ribbon on a familiar facility in a grand celebration to commemorate the opening of the new Henry County Schools Learning and Support Center at Henry County Middle School.

The former middle school was tabbed as the new home of this support center which now houses several district departments and programs designed to support the overall community.

Board members, Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis, community partners, government officials, and school district leaders were on hand for the ceremony and tour of the space.  Plans to unveil the facility in April were made ahead of the pandemic shutting everything down.  With the opportunity to gather safely and responsibly this month, everyone was ready to celebrate this community achievement.

“We are proud to officially introduce this game-changing facility and operations to our community,” said Davis.

The repurposed building is now home to several departments, including: Adult Education & Extended Learning; Family Services; Student Services; Counseling &  Advisement; Nursing & Health; School Psychology; School Social Work; Social-Emotional Learning; Professional Learning; Registration & Enrollment; Language Services; Federal Programs (Title I); Parent Engagement.

Additionally, Southern Crescent Technical College has partnered with the school district for space in the support center, and a Boys & Girls Club will soon occupy part of the facility after an agreement with county government officials was agreed to back in 2019.

“This facility is something our community is going to benefit from for years to come,” said Board Vice-Chair Holly Cobb.  “To know how many members of our community will be served by the various operations of this learning and support center, it reaffirms that this was the right move for our district to provide this centrally-located facility to support continued growth for our county and schools.”
