2021 is the bicentennial year for Henry County, Georgia; our 200th birthday celebration. Henry County was created by the Georgia State Legislature May 15, 1821 and signed into law by the Governor December 24, 1821. Henry County was originally much larger than it is today and included all or part of present-day Henry, Fulton, DeKalb, Rockdale, Newton, Butts, Spalding, and Fayette Counties.
Henry County has grown explosively over the last 30 years and this is an opportunity to look back over these past 200 years and learn about our past and present and to consider our future. Everyone is part of this shared celebration; it doesn’t matter if your family came as pioneer settlers 200 years ago or if you moved to Henry this year, anyone who is here today or has ever had a Henry County connection is part of this great event. The bicentennial is an opportunity to pull together as a people and realize how much we all share in common.
Don’t miss out on being part of history. Think about how you can be a part of this celebration. Calling on all local governments, chamber of commerce, newspapers, businesses, churches, schools, libraries, civic clubs, social media outlets, families, and everyone to be a part. Everyone has a role to play in the bicentennial celebration. Start planning now how you can do your part. Let’s make 2021 a memorable year!
