Motorists are beginning to see attractive changes to the landscapes at the interchanges of Jodeco Rd and I-75, Jonesboro Rd. and I-75 and Highway 155 at I-75 thanks to a beautification project initiated by Henry County District II Commissioner Dee Clemmons.

Clemmons said she made the beautification program a priority along the three main thoroughfares to help boost economic development, tourism and to make the areas attractive for motorists traveling on Interstate 75.

Crews have been prepping the concrete medians to make way for decorative crepe myrtle trees, flower beds and other topiaries, which will be dotted along the middle of the two roadways.

Clemmons said that Jonesboro Road is known for its many restaurants and shopping opportunities and she wants to ensure that the area is well-maintained and attractive. The westside corridor is also a major thoroughfare with the potential to attract top retailers and businesses, and Highway 155 is a major industrial corridor. She also added that the beautification of the landscape will attract more people to both Jodeco Road and Jonesboro Road, which will in turn benefit economic development.

“I want to show pride in our community and make the area more appealing to shoppers and travelers,” said Clemmons. “Our interchanges should be beautiful and reflect the high quality of life we enjoy here in Henry County.”

Code enforcement will regularly patrol the area to ensure the area remains clean and free of trash and debris.
