The Fruit of the Spirit Princesses, Inc. of Locust Grove celebrated its seventh year on Friday, July 24, at the Fairfield Inn. In attendance that day were college students who participated in the program as children. Locust Grove Councilman Carlos Greer (Pro Tem) honored the Princesses with his keynote speech, and Pastor Curtis Wyatt gave words of encouragement at the celebration.

A week earlier, Princesses recognized members who were promoted to their next higher grade or graduation from high school.  Thus far, there have been nine high school graduates: Lateria Bailey, Zhana Knight, Jayanna Berry, Destinee Berry, Lakeria Bailey, Rosa James, Mary James, Jamaya Cole, and Jazmine Jones. The young ladies are mentored by Evangelist Joan Lawrence, successful business owners, professionals in various fields, and members of the clergy. Dr. Chon Hester, Coordinator of Advisement &  Counseling Services and Student Services, of the Henry County Board of Education, was the keynote speaker.

The Fruit of the Spirit Princesses, Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit organization designed to guide and teach values to young girls ages six to 18, that they may develop into responsible, caring, confident, and spiritual adults. Evangelist Lawrence believes it is easier to raise a child than to repair a damaged adult.

“Our mission is to build self-esteem spiritually, morally, instill pride, communication skills, and accountability. We stand on values such as giving back to the community, integrity, honor and love, while having fun along the way,” explained Lawrence. The group does many things to show their care for the community. They make and deliver pillows for the elderly, take cartons of food to those who may need it, perform community services, remember the elderly with a gift on special occasions, and are most enjoyable company because of their experiences and guidance within the group.
