Henry County Farm Bureau (HCFB) Director, Jake Carter, is serving the first year of a two-year term on the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) Issue Advisory Committee for Energy.

The committee considers topics and policies relevant to on-farm access to energy. Carter represents Georgia as one of 20 members on the committee, which is one of 13 issue advisory committees established by AFBF to form its positions on topics that affect broad segments of U.S. agriculture.

Jake, his wife, Jennifer, and Jake’s parents, Jimmy and Kathy, operate Southern Belle Farm, which features an on-farm market and is a popular local agritourism venue.

Jake served as the AFBF Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee Chairman in 2014 and was the GFB Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee Chairman in 2012. He is a member of the Snapping Shoals Electric Membership Corporation Board and serves on the Georgia Board of Economic Development and the Henry County Soil and Water Board.

Jake and Jennifer live in McDonough with their daughters, Karson and Kennedy, and son, Coan. The family attends Bethany Baptist Church.

Founded in 1937, Georgia Farm Bureau is the state’s largest general farm organization and has 158 county offices. Its volunteer members actively participate in local, state and national activities that promote agriculture awareness to their non-farming neighbors. GFB officers its members a wide variety of benefits, including insurance, but enrollment in any of the member benefits is optional and not a requirement for membership.
