Devin Dixon is racing toward a stellar conclusion to his collegiate track career.
The former state champion runner from Eagle’s Landing High School posted his two latest career highlights on consecutive days as the indoor season continues for him and his Texas A&M teammates. He posted the fourth-fastest time in NCAA history in the 600-meter run January 31, and his 4×440-meter relay team clocked the fastest time in the nation so far this year the next day. Both events were at the Texas Tech Invitational in Lubbock.
“Devin continues to solidify himself in the NCAA record books,” Texas A&M head coach Pat Henry said after Dixon’s 600-meter performance. It was his collegiate debut in the event and he finished in 1:15.16 to take first place.
Other excellent finishes this season include a win in the 400-meter run at the Ted Nelson Invitational, which his team hosted last month.
The Aggies are gearing up for the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships, which they will host February 28-29. The NCAA championships are scheduled for March 13-14 in Albuquerque, N.M.
As the outdoor season looms, Dixon will seek to add to his accolades that include two consecutive years as South Central Region Track Athlete of the Year and three straight SEC titles in the 800-meter run. He was the silver medalist in the NCAA finals last year in that event and anchored the national champion 4×400-meter team that ran 2:59.05 to set a new U.S. collegiate record.
Dixon won AAAA state championships at 400 and 800 meters in 2016 for Eagle’s Landing. It was his third straight state title in the 800.
