The 9th Annual Geranium Drop will take place on December 31, 2019 on the Square in downtown McDonough. The event is presented by McDonough Hospitality and Tourism Board, and in collaboration with the City of McDonough and the McDonough Main Street Program.
Christy Collier, McDonough Tourism Director, has high hopes for this year’s Geranium Drop.
“Our beautiful McDonough Square is the perfect spot for a fun, family friendly event. Our restaurants, specialty food trucks and small town charm only add to our appeal,” said Collier. “There’s nowhere else in Georgia where you can dance under the stars with your family and friends and count down to a new decade as a large ball of geraniums is dropped at midnight to welcome this special new year.”
As the City of Atlanta has decided to cancel this year’s Peach Drop event due to Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ decision to “take a break” in order to “re-evaluate and re-examine” the event and how it is planned out and enacted, the Geranium Drop is one of the only large-scale New Year’s Eve events south of Atlanta.
“We are anticipating a larger turnout this year with the Peach Drop cancellation. We are excited to be an alternative for so many people in Metro Atlanta,” said Collier.
The entertainment lineup for the night will include live music by No Limitz Band and DJ Doug Sheets.
The evening will be decade themed, so feel free to don your best costumes from the rock-n-roll 50’s to the go-go 90’s. There will also be a costume contest.
Downtown restaurants will have food and drink specials throughout the night.
