Two local shelters are seeking donations to help those in need during the holiday season.
A Friend’s House, at 111 Henry Parkway in McDonough, is welcoming holiday donations of items including: bath towels; washcloths; twin-size extra long sheets; laundry detergent; liquid fabric softener; dryer sheets; and bleach.
A Friend’s House is a nonprofit shelter for abused, neglected and abandoned children. Community Outreach and Public Relations Strategist, Julie O’Neill, said the facility is in the process of fulfilling individual needs and Christmas wish lists for each resident.
Still, she said, personal-care items are always welcome.
“Operationally speaking, we do have a facility wish list that directly impacts our residents,” said O’Neill. “With 24 beds, and anywhere from 14-24 youth at a time, we go through some serious linens. We take great pride in teaching life skills to our teens, like learning to keep up with their laundry – the how-to and how-often of linen laundering.”
O’Neill said A Friend’s House welcomes “any and all donations,” each Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 678-432-1630 or visit www.afriendshouse.org.
Haven House domestic-violence shelter is also seeking donations of unopened toys for children who are currently housed at the facility.
Haven House serves victims of family violence in Henry, Jasper, Butts and Lamar counties. Executive Director Katie Tucker and her staff are also seeking donations of canned-food items or toiletries, according to information provided by the shelter.
