On Tuesday, October 29 the Kiwanis Club of Henry County hosted a ribbon cutting for two families in the club that lost their daughters to childhood cancer.
“As the Kiwanis President, we wanted to create awareness for childhood cancer, as members of our club lost children to childhood cancer, and to create a long term standing awareness of Kiwanis Club that is visible in the community,” said Dwight Lewis, President Elect of the Kiwanis Club of Henry County.
Andy and Kathy Pipkin and Pam Milling cut the ribbon in front of two benches placed in Heritage Park in memory of their daughters and as members of the Kiwanis Club of Henry County.
Andy and Kathy Pipkin lost their daughter, Haley Eason, to a brain tumor in 2011. Haley was diagnosed when she was 13 and passed away at age 23.
“I thought the [ribbon cutting] was pretty awesome,” said Kathy. “This is Kiwanis’ way of showing their love for us and our children.”
Pam Milling lost her daughter, Terry Milling, to undifferentiated sarcoma in 2009. Terry was diagnosed at age five and passed away at age 12.
“For parents that have lost a child, the most important thing is for people to remember your child, to remember them and share memories,” said Pam. “ It is important to think of the members that lost children in the club and it is an honor to be a part of that. It speaks a lot to the character of the club, serving and giving their time for the betterment of the community. This is a great group of people.”
