Lieutenant Greg Moore, of the City of McDonough Fire Department, has been selected as the Coalition Coordinator of the Safe Kids Henry program, a division of Safe Kids Georgia led by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
As unintentional childhood injuries are the leading cause of death for children and teenagers in the United States, Safe Kids Georgia is dedicated solely to preventing these injuries by reducing the rate of motor vehicle crashes, fire, drowning, poisoning, and falls among children ages one to nineteen. According to the American Society for the Positive Care of Children, proper installation and use of car seats can reduce the risk of death and injury by as much as seventy percent.
Through the establishment of our local Safe Kids program, the City of McDonough Fire Department was awarded one-hundred new car seats to provide to residents who are in need of the life-saving devices. “There are only twelve individuals in the entire County who have been certified through the National Child Passenger Safety Certification Training Program to install and inspect car seats,” stated Fire Chief Steve Morgan, “and we are proud that eleven of those individuals work for the City of McDonough Fire and Police Departments.”
While the City of McDonough Fire Department will lead the efforts, the Safe Kids program will serve to help ensure the safety and well-being of children throughout all of Henry County.
For individuals interested in determining whether they qualify to receive a car seat at no cost or for more information about the Safe Kids Henry program, contact Lieutenant Greg Moore via email at gmoore@mcdonoughga.org or by phone at 470-878-1118.
