Henry County District Attorney Darius Pattillo recently announced that his office is adding resources to be used in it prosecution of child crimes and other serious offenses.

  The Crimes Against Children/Domestic Violence Unit, launched in 2017 when Pattillo took office, has added a second prosecutor, a second investigator and a paralegal to bring the total unit staff to six, according to a statement released Monday by the office. The group is tasked with prosecuting “child molestation, child abuse and serious domestic violence cases,” according to officials.

  The unit also includes three certified members of the national Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which investigates online human trafficking and child pornography.

“We have made it a priority to have a team that is specially trained to work with child victims of sex crimes,” Pattillo said. “This includes a victim advocate, investigators and prosecutors who are trained to ensure justice is served from arrest to trial.”

  The unit’s two assistant district attorneys together have more than 33 years of experience practicing law, as well as two investigators with 60 years combined of law enforcement experience.

  In addition to prosecuting cases, the Crimes Against Children/Domestic Violence Unit works with law enforcement, community organizations and schools to educate the community on child abuse, domestic violence and crime prevention.

  “The unit has successfully prosecuted dozens of child predators, rapists and abusers,” Pattillo said. “These additional resources will help us better protect the most vulnerable members of our community.”
