Praying and praising

Of course I was on my knees as I watched the weather moguls on TV show the possible arrival of another storm, this one named Michael. Prayed as I went to bed, and did notice we still had power … whew! But I woke up before midnight and the power had gone away. More prayers and I was soon in la la land. When I woke up before six a.m. and PTL (Praise the Lord), the power was back on. I always pray for our police, EMTs, and firefighters in my morning prayers and now I’ve added our linemen. I saw a Facebook post showing some of the lineman asleep on the concrete behind their trucks! Guess they were so tired, they could sleep without a mattress. God bless them and all they do!

I always thank Him when a prayer is answered, when loved ones get home safely, or find the job they’ve always wanted, and when the storms pass us by too. Praying for the people in Mexico Beach, Florida as I see the terrible photos of the town completely destroyed. I was wondering how I could help, and didn’t want to give out private information online or by phone, so I actually thought about driving to Jackson to donate some goods at Piggly Wiggly while they had a collection truck outside their store. The truck was accepting water, clothes, non-perishable foods and lots more and then would be taking off for the South in two days. But, it turned out that I didn’t have to go to Jackson after all. As I checked out on my Publix trip, the kind cashier asked if I wanted to donate to help those in distress after Michael. Yes! Neat I can add the amount I prefer to my grocery costs and someone I will never see will receive my small donation. Food Depot has similar programs from time to time and I’ve actually added a few dollars to help others when I was shopping at Dollar General and Walgreens. I’ll start collecting gifts for children in the next couple of months so I can help fill the Toys for Tots boxes at Summit’s December car show.

More praise for that wonderful parts store that always has neat vehicles turning slowly in the front windows. Had a ball at their Mustang/Ford show and learned something new. As I admired a 1986 Mustang, the owner told me her car was built on a Fox Body. What? Came home and looked it up, via the internet of course, and found that was something they came up with for the smaller version of the Mustangs built in the eighties. Of course the 1986 model is one of my favorites and when I win the lottery I’ll probably buy one for my toy car. Yes, I do play the lottery, just a little. I buy a Jumbo Bucks and a Mega Million every week. (I confessed that to a former pastor and he assured me he approved as long as I gave ten percent of my winnings to Mt. Bethel!)

I do admire the companies that help us help others, without even having to write a check or buy a stamp. Of course the Methodist church has different agencies that help those in distress plus make donations, and or course provide the Children’s Home to assist those in need of a place to live. I am so glad I’ve always known about their help for the needy.

Proud too that SunTrust, along with Georgia Power and Southern Bell would build Habitat Homes every summer and glad I got to help complete a couple. Am lucky that I’ve always known so many generous souls, and companies too. Very blessed to be a Georgian and a Methodist!
