Local residents with a flair for horticulture are invited to McDonough to learn the finer points of fall gardening.
The Henry County Master Gardeners will present a Fall Gardening Symposium September 7 from 9 a.m., to 4 p.m., at the University of Georgia Extension Office, 97 Lake Dow Road. Registration will be from 9-9:25 a.m.
The symposium will feature several presentations on gardening and horticulture throughout the day. Bodie Pennisi, a professor and landscape specialist in UGA’s Department of Horticulture, will address the topic of winter bloomers. A representative from the Atlanta Audubon Society’s Wildlife Sanctuary Program will then speak on “Creating a Backyard Wildlife Sanctuary.”
Rick Smith, a certified landscape professional and former president of the Metro Atlanta Landscape & Turf Association, will speak on “Pruning with Confidence.” Gary Starrett, a member of the American Hydrangea Society and owner of Beulahland Hydrangea Gardens, will give a presentation titled “Hydrangea Magic.”
The symposium will also include vendors, door prizes, and a silent auction.
The cost to register is $35 through August 31, and $40 afterward. Seating is limited. Checks can be made payable to the Extension Office.
