The Kiwanis Henry County Fair will return to Heritage Park in McDonough October 30 through November 3. The fair will include midway rides, carnival games, food and craft vendors, a 4-H petting zoo and live entertainment on the Edward Jones stage.
The fair will open at 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday and at 3 p.m. on Saturday. General admission is $5 for all ages, and children under six years old will get in free.
Laura Turner is the publicity chair for the fair, which has been a staple in Henry County for more than 70 years. She said thousands of people turned out for the 2017 event, and is confident that the same will be true this year.”It’s become a real tradition for a lot of families,” said Turner. “It’s somewhere you can go locally where you can experience an old-fashioned county fair. A lot of people have been coming for generations. In addition to providing a plethora of games, rides and activities for attendees at the fair, Turner said, the fair enables Kiwanis to show its continued support for the community.
“What really makes us different, first of all, is that it’s completely put on by volunteers,” she said. “The Kiwanis Club works all year on this. All of the proceeds that Kiwanis receives from the fair stay in our community, and they are given to local nonprofits that serve children.”The fair will shine a spotlight on various groups throughout the week. October 30 is Student Night, during which students will get free admission. On October 31, said Turner, the focus will shift to “hometown heroes” by granting free admission to public safety workers, school-system employees and others who work in local government.
“That’s the one we’re really trying to grow,” said Turner.
November 1 is Praise Night at the fair, with the entertainment lineup slated to include live praise and worship music. Attendees who bring a church bulletin or wear a praise T-shirt will get in free.
The fair will operate on its normal schedule November 2-3.
Several businesses and organizations are lending a hand to support the Kiwanis Club for this year’s fair. Edward Jones will sponsor the entertainment stage for a fifth year. Other presenting sponsors are Active Pest Control, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, McDonough Methodist Church, Piedmont Henry Hospital and United Community Bank. The Kiwanis Club also received a generous grant from the Henry County Convention and Visitors Bureau, in an effort to attract fair attendees from outside of Henry County.
“Whether you love the rides, food or entertainment, we hope the Kiwanis Fair will become a tradition for your family like it has for ours,” says Kiwanis President Priti Griffin.
