The Salvation Army is thanking local residents for their ongoing support of its mission to reach those in need over the past year.
Salvation Army Week is scheduled for May 13-18.
Tammy Jackson is the director of the organization’s Service Center, at 401 Racetrack Road in McDonough. She said the annual observance, now in its 62nd year nationally, is designed as a way to recognize those who contributed to the Salvation Army’s success locally.
“Salvation Army Week is about showing appreciation to our customers and our donors,” said Jackson. “All week long, we’ll be having different sales as well as different days set aside to show our appreciation.”
Among the highlights for the week, said Jackson, is Ice Cream Day on May 15.
“Mayfield Dairy has donated ice cream for us to give our customers to show our appreciation,” she said, adding that the fun doesn’t stop there. “On Friday, May 17, we’ll be giving away free hot dogs, chips and drinks to our donors and customers.”
Jackson added that the Service Center will also have a Clothing Bag Sale for customers during Salvation Army Week.
“They get to stuff a bag with whatever clothing items they like, and a full bag will be just five dollars,” she said. “We’ll also have ‘buy one, get one half-off’ for furniture and appliances.”
Similar discounts will be available on shoes as part of Salvation Army Week.
Jackson said sales at the Service Center have increased over the past year. The support of customers and donors, she said, enables the Salvation Army to meet the needs of local residents and families through rent assistance, utility assistance, a food pantry and clothing vouchers.
“We’ve also remodeled our store, so we have a totally different floor layout,” said Jackson. Customers have been raving about the new layout plan.” The Service Center accepts donations Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m., to 4 p.m. For more information, call 770-957-8868.
