Joana Seams, a seventh grade student at Henry Middle School and Ashlyn Patel, of Community Christian School were recently recognized at the Lions International Peace Poster Contest at the District 18-L Convention. The two students were sponsored by the McDonough Lions Club. The program is offered at the beginning of each year to public school students from Pickens to Butts counties.
Joana Seams is the daughter of Esther Judith Kilko Seams. Her poster was chosen for its originality, artistic merit and portrayal of the contest theme “Kindness Matters.” Joana received $75 from the McDonough Lions Club for first place in her school as well as an additional $25 for third place in the district. Her art teacher is Heather Forrester.
Ashlyn Patel received an honorable mention certificate for “Best Message.” Ashlyn is the daughter of Hetal and Sonal Patel. Her art teacher is Dr. Lynda Kerr.
McDonough Lions Club President, Danny Brown stated, “it is obvious that these young people have strong ideas about what peace means to them.”
