The McDonough City Council voted at its January 17 regular meeting to enter into an agreement with Henry County to help facilitate the construction and development of the county’s new aquatic center, which officials said will be located on or about 400 Industrial Boulevard.
The council also approved a resolution setting qualifying dates for the 2023 municipal elections that will take place in November. Qualifying is set for August 14-18 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. with the exception of the hour between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. The qualifying fee is three percent of the annual compensation for a City Council seat. The last mayoral election was in 2021 and that seat will not be up for election this year.
An administrative variance was approved for a lot at 104 Winslow Court in The Moorings at Wesley Lakes subdivision. The applicant requested a reduction in the rear setback from 80 to 72 feet due to the flood plain on the property. The request was within the 10 percent threshold typically allowed for such requests.
Other measures approved by the council at the meeting included a $28,975 expenditure from the Stormwater Department Enterprise Fund for technical support services, a $10,251 emergency repair at the city’s wastewater treatment plant, and authorization for the mayor to execute documentation for the 2023 Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG).
