Arbor Day is a day set aside to plant, celebrate, and recognize trees for the many social, environmental, economic, and health benefits they provide. Georgia celebrates Arbor Day on the third Friday of February to coincide with the regional season for planting. In 2023, Georgia Arbor Day is Friday, February 17.
The USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service is partnering with the Henry County Master Gardeners to host the annual Arbor Day free tree giveaway on Friday, February 17.
The selected species for this year’s giveaway are Flowering Dogwood, Red Bud, and Crape Myrtle.
The tree seedlings will be available at five locations including Henry County Farm Bureau located at 117 Racetrack Road in McDonough; Heritage Park located at 97 Lake Dow Road in McDonough; Locust Grove Municipal Building located at 3644 Highway 42 S. in Locust Grove; Hampton Train Depot located at 20 East Main Street S. in Hampton; and Cochran Library located at 174 Burke St. in Stockbridge. The hours of the giveaway are 8:30 a.m. until approximately 11 a.m. (or earlier if supplies run out) with the exception of the Hampton location which will begin at 10 a.m.
Henry County Master Gardeners will be onsite at the giveaway to answer questions related to the species as well as to instruct on methods of proper planting.
