Exhibitors will once again get a chance to display their talents and market their goods at this year’s Henry County Fair.
The event will return to McDonough October 12-16 at Heritage Park, 97 Lake Dow Road. Sponsored annually by the Kiwanis Club of Henry County, the fair will feature exhibits in a variety of categories.
Categories for canning exhibits include: tomatoes, green beans, other vegetables, fruits, jelly, jams and marmalades, preserves, pickles and cucumbers, pickled beets, fruit pickles, conserve/relishes, pickled peppers, salsa, sauerkraut, chow chow, honey, pickled okra, fruit butter and other miscellaneous items. Entries must be in clean, standard canning jars with new, standard lids and with rings left on. No freezer jams or jellies will be accepted.
Horticulture exhibit categories include vegetables – three of each – as well as okra, potatoes and beets, green bean bunches and turnips, peppers, squash and carrots, tomatoes and other miscellaneous vegetables; cantaloupe, pumpkin and watermelon – one of each; fruits – three of each, such as apples, pears and bunches of grapes; nuts, peanuts and other similar items; outdoor plants; indoor plants; terrariums; fresh flower arrangements; dried fruit; and other miscellaneous items. All horticulture must be grown locally, and exhibitors must provide containers for displaying nuts, vegetables and fruits attractively.
Categories for sewing and needlework for exhibits at the fair are: sewing for clothing (single item or ensemble); sewing for home furnishing (single item or ensemble); needlework or embroidery for clothing (single item or ensemble); needlework for home furnishing, including cross-stitch, embroidery/crewel; knitting, crochet, purses and totes, wall hangings or miscellaneous items.
Creative crafts exhibits at the fair will feature art including: sketching, oil, acrylic, watercolor and miscellaneous items; woodworking; wood craft; ceramics; sculptures; Christmas items; other holiday decorations; home decor; flower arrangements; models or dioramas; jewelry; birdhouses, feeders or baths; string art; paper art; papier-mache; photography, including family, landscape/ natural/ agricultural and miscellaneous items; poems and writings; scrapbooking for babies, families, holidays or memory pages; wreaths; mini-booths and miscellaneous items.
The Henry County Extension and the Kiwanis Club will not be held responsible for damage or theft to items on exhibit.
Check-in for exhibitors is scheduled for October 10 from 9 a.m., to 6 p.m. Exhibits must be picked up after the fair on October 17, from 9 a.m. to noon.
All entries must be the work of the exhibitor – who is a resident, taxpayer or county employee – or produced by exhibitor within the last two years and not previously awarded a prize at the fair. Youth entrants must be under 18 years of age or still in high school, and only one exhibit can be made in a category per person. All judges’ decisions will be final.
Organizers will not be held responsible in case of any damage or theft of exhibits. All articles must be left on display throughout the entire Fair.
