It is almost time for a select group of Henry County voters to return to the polls.

A number of Democratic primary races are still being contested, most of them statewide, while only two Republican primary races affecting anyone in the county are still up for grabs. The official date for the runoff election is June 21, but voters in Henry can make their choices known a week earlier.

The early voting schedule was released by the county’s election office, and five polling locations will be open June 13-17 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.: Fairview Recreation Center, 35 Austin Road in Stockbridge;  Locust Grove Library, 115 MLK Jr. Blvd. in Locust Grove; Fortson Library, 61 McDonough Street in Hampton; Merle Manders Conference Center, 111 Davis Road in Stockbridge; and the Elections & Voter Registration main office, 40 Atlanta Street in McDonough.

Voters in Henry County can choose any of these locations to cast their ballots during early voting. Those who wait until election day must visit their specific local precinct.

Anyone who voted in the primary and plans to vote in the runoff must vote with the same party ballot both times.

The only local primary race still undecided is for the District 5 seat on the Henry County Board of Commissioners. Keisha Stubbs and Kevin Lewis were the top two vote-getters in the Democratic primary. All other primary races for Board of Commissioners or Board of Education seats as well as local judicial posts were won without a runoff or had a lone unopposed candidate.

A portion of Georgia’s 10th Congressional District lies In Henry County, and both primary races for that seat are in a runoff. The candidates include Mike Collins and Vernon Jones on the Republican side, with Tabitha Johnson-Green and Jessica Allison Fore squaring off on the Democratic side.

Four statewide primary races are in a runoff, all of which are Democrats. They are Kwanza Hall vs. Charlie Bailey for lieutenant governor, Bee Nguyen vs. Dee Dawkins-Haigler for secretary of state, Janice Laws Robinson vs. Raphael Baker for insurance commissioner, and William Boddie Jr. vs. Nicole Horn for labor commissioner.

One state legislative race affecting a portion of Henry County is in a runoff. That is the Republican primary contest for the District 117 seat in the State House, where Lauren Daniel is facing Noelle Kahaian.
