A newly formed partnership will provide Henry County Schools’ substitute teachers with a range of new benefits and incentives, including weekly pay, for the 2023-2024 school year.

“Our substitute teachers are a vital part of our workforce, ensuring seamless learning opportunities for students when teachers must be out of the classroom,” said Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis. “We are looking to grow, nurture, and invest in our substitutes, and we believe this new partnership makes them more a part of our team by offering benefits previously unavailable to substitute teachers in our district.”

In addition to new benefits, HCS substitute teachers will continue to receive the same rate of pay (ranging from $110 to $145 per day based on experience and position), as well as schedule flexibility and the ability to select the schools they serve.

The Board of Education at its June 12 meeting voted to partner with Education Staffing and Management Solutions (ESS) to improve substitute teacher staffing across the district. ESS, a seasoned educational staffing firm with nearly two decades of experience providing trained and qualified substitute personnel to school districts, currently serves more than 3.5 million students with a pool of more than 55,000 employees across 29 states.

Moving forward, all substitute teachers will be employed by ESS who will work hand in hand with HCS’ Human Resource Services Division to make this a seamless transition for new and existing substitutes. “We are thrilled and appreciative that our Board has decided to invest in a partnership with ESS to ensure that our district increases its substitute teacher fill rate,” said Chief Human Resources Officer Dr. Carl Knowlton “This partnership will safeguard student learning when regular teachers are absent. We are also excited that it offers our substitute teachers additional benefits and incentives. We look forward to this collaborative partnership and the opportunities it brings to positively impact our school system and, most importantly, our students.”

The district will facilitate upcoming ESS Connection and Orientation meetings virtually via Zoom on June 20-22 and in-person at the Henry County Learning and Support Center on June 28-29. For more information and/or questions, contact subteacher@henry.k12.ga.us.
