Joe Turner wrote, “That’s just too easy. This photo shows downtown Hampton in the 1950s. The Edna Earl hotel is on the right.” Kc Krzic wrote on behalf of the City of Hampton Historic Preservation Commission, “The picture is Downtown Hampton looking north on E. Main Street and the intersection of James Street. Circa 1952. The picture shows The Edna Earl Hotel, the Pool Room, and the Deraney Department Store.” Charles Pendley wrote, “This is a view looking north along East Main Street in Hampton in the early 1950s. The Edna Earl Hotel is named after the owner’s wife, Edna Earl Brown Steele. In the early 1950s Hampton was on the main road to Florida. I wasted many hours in the pool room next door. Later my parents bought the Deraney Department store building, and my father, Earl Pendley, had his business there. The tall building farther down is the Hampton Theater, where I spent many Saturday afternoons watching cowboy movies.”
