UGA Extension Henry County will be hosting the Journeyman Farmer Certificate Program, which is for those interested in starting a farm business or those who have recently begun farming and want to improve their operation. USDA defines a beginning farmer as anyone who has been farming less than ten years continuously. It consists of two parts: the Small Farm Business Planning and the Fruit and Vegetable Production Section. •The Small Farm Business Planning Section will be held on January 20 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. The program is being hosted by AgSouth Farmer Credit’s AGAware program and will cover topics such as balance and income statements, budgets, and financing. The program will be held at the UGA Extension Henry County Office located at 97 Lake Dow Road, McDonough, GA 30252. The cost is $75. Please register for the program at https://tinyurl.com/apacr7fd. •The second part is the Fruit and Vegetable Production Section that covers a multitude of subjects relating to crop production. It covers topics such as soil health and fertility, cover crops, pest control, food safety, and marketing. Participants will have the chance to visit a working farm as part of the program. It will be held on Thursday, February 2 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Friday, February 3 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., and Saturday, February 4 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. The cost is $100 per participant. •Please note: The third part, the hands-on section and internship will not be offered. Participants will need to seek these opportunities on their own.
