The Locust Grove City Council voted at its November 7 regular meeting to approve a rezoning request for a planned development adjacent to the west side of I-75 and just north of the Bill Gardner Parkway commercial corridor. The vote to approve was 4-2 and it came after the item was tabled at the council’s October meeting. According to city staff documents, the revised site plan for the 50-acre tract includes 332 apartment units, 56 townhomes and general commercial space.

Two applications related to a proposed residential development were withdrawn prior to being heard by the council. A request had been made to amend the city’s future land use map regarding multiple tracts on Frances Ward Drive totaling about 22 acres, changing the designation from Mixed Historic Neighborhood to High-Density Residential. A subsequent rezoning request was also on the table that would have allowed development of a 100-lot subdivision. Both petitions had been recommended for denial by city staff, and both were withdrawn at the applicant’s request according to city officials.

In other business, the council approved the creation of a streetlight district for Pine Valley subdivision on Tanger Boulevard and an annual update of the city’s capital improvement element as well as an amendment to the architectural review ordinance entitled “exterior materials standards.” Architectural plans submitted for Barden Salon at 3408 Hwy. 42 were approved, along with a bid award for work on the installation of two speed tables on Jackson Street. Also approved was a conceptual roadway alignment showing the property interests that may need to be acquired for the Peeksville Road Connector.

All of these actions were approved unanimously.
