Keith Moseley enjoys going to work every day.
He’s worked at Simmons Manufacturing in McDonough for more than half a century. Still, he has no plans of slowing down now.
“I’m just trying to keep things going and keep things rolling as best I can,” said Moseley, 74, of McDonough. “I’m not planning on leaving anytime soon that I know of. I’m still the plant manager, and I love what I do.”
Moseley is preparing to celebrate 57 years working at Simmons in the coming months. He began working there when he was 18 and currently serves as the facility’s plant manager.
“I help with the machines – running them and fixing them,” said Moseley.
“I help train the people to do what we do. That can be more trying than the machines, at times. But it’s not bad. It’s part of what we do.
“It’s a great bunch of folks,” he continued. “I’ve enjoyed it, and I like doing it, and it’s a great bunch of people to work with.”
Simmons specializes in lead-free water well supplies. Moseley said operations at the plant have gone through numerous changes since he began working there 57 years ago.
Those changes, he said, have largely been positive.
“It’s gone from hands-on machine type work to [computer numerical control] automated-type work,” he said. “It ain’t like the hands on when I started. You program them, and they do what you tell them to do.
“Converting to CNC equipment and learning how to make it work has been challenging, but no more than anything else,” Moseley continued. “It makes the job go a lot smoother. This year has been trying, but we’ve had a lot of good people helping to make it work. It’s a challenge, and I like the challenge. We’ve got a lot of good people who make it work better.”
Moseley said when it comes to working at Simmons, there’s never a dull moment.
“It never gets boring,” he said. “It’s always interesting. Production keeps you on pins and needles. There’s always something to do, something to get done.”
Shane McCoy of Griffin has worked with Moseley at Simmons for 18 years.
McCoy is currently training to be a plant manager himself, and said he has learned a lot from Moseley.
“He’s very knowledgeable about our product,” said McCoy, 36. “He’s always reliable to be there, doesn’t miss any time or anything.”
McCoy said he has particularly enjoyed collaborating with Moseley on special projects, which cannot be completed during regular work hours.
“Those times when you have a small group of people, you’re able to connect more and get to know each other better than you can in a large setting,” said McCoy.
Moseley said he and his fellow employees work together to make sure everything goes smoothly each day.
“We’re so close and trying to get things done,” he said. “The people there have been good to me, and I’ve tried to be good to them. It’s a job. Trust me, you’ll be tired when you get home; But it’s a good thing. You just do the best you can with what you’ve got.”
“There’s always something that needs to be fixed, and that keeps it interesting,” said Moseley. “It’s work. It’s a challenge, and I like the challenge. The people we work with are like friends, and I like working with them to do the things we have to do.”
Moseley and his wife Donna, who reside in McDonough, have two sons, a daughter and stepdaughter, as well as eight grandchildren.
Congratulations!
