A series of community meetings are on tap for local residents wanting to learn more about the possible annexation that could greatly increase the size of Stockbridge.
A virtual town hall meeting is scheduled for September 8 on a Zoom platform, and another virtual meeting is set for October 28. Both of those meetings are at 6:30 p.m.
A community meeting will be hosted September 29 at the Monarch Village clubhouse on Monarch Village Way off Walt Stephens Road. Another community meeting is planned for October 20 at a site to be determined. Both of those meetings are also scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The annexation referendum was created by Senate Bill 612, introduced by Sen. Emanuel Jones and co-sponsored by Sen. Brian Strickland. It is on the November 8 ballot, with voters in the affected areas set to decide its outcome.
According to city officials, the proposed annexation would increase the population of Stockbridge by more than 6,600 residents while filling in some gaps within the existing city limits.
The boundaries of the proposed annexation area include the Red Oak Road community between I-75 and Trade Center Parkway; subdivisions off Speer Road and Hwy. 138; and communities north of existing city limits and downtown Stockbridge up to Valley Hill Road.
Affected subdivisions include Arbor Cove, Arbor Cove Villages, Cactus Ridge, Eagle Ridge, Glen Devon, Grand Oaks, Kinsey Crossing, Manderly, Northwind, Piney Woods, Ridge Crest, Sentry Oaks, Spivey Glen, Spivey Ridge, Springwood Valley, Taylors Landing, Valley Hill Station, Windsong Plantation, and Wildwood Estates.
