The University of Georgia Extension Henry County is accepting applications for the 2023 Master Gardener Extension Volunteer Class. The program is designed to help the University of Georgia Extension staff transfer research-based information about gardening and related subjects to the public by training home gardeners. Through it, the Cooperative Extension can reach out and serve more citizens with educational programming and demonstrations. Volunteers help in many roles in aiding the local county extension office to deliver horticultural educational programs and information to the community. They also benefit from training, networking with other garden enthusiasts, and having the opportunity to serve their communities.
The training program starts in January and ends in late March of 2023. The classes are held on Mondays at the UGA Extension Henry County office. They cover many subjects such as pest management, vegetable gardening, communication and leadership, plant identification, etc. After completing the program, the interns must complete 50 hours of volunteer service within one year to become Master Gardeners.
