The Locust Grove City Council voted at its July 17 meeting to set the 2022 millage at 5.529 and then roll it back to zero.
The current maintenance and operations tax digest was reported as $555,232,180. That is a 25-percent increase from the $444,254,480 for 2021, according to a city staff report. The millage rate and ability to roll it back were calculated based on $3,069,741 in sales taxes from the previous year.
The rate of 5.529 “represents a continued drop (from 5.769) due to the increase in property valuation due to development of hundreds of homes and new commercial/industrial buildings,” according to city officials.
The city’s digest in 2013 was $164,068,724 and has grown 238 percent in just under a decade.
In other business, the council also convened public hearings on four other agenda items in advance of a possible vote at the August 1 regular meeting:
* An ordinance for rezoning of approximately 30 acres on Stanley K. Tanger Blvd. south of Tanger Dr. to develop a multifamily residential community.
* A preliminary concept plan review feedback discussion of a 50-acre site on Price Drive requested rezoning from C-2 (General Commercial) to PD (Planned Development) for a proposed mixed-use development.
* An ordinance to repeal the PR-4 (Planned Residential District) zoning district in its entirety.
* An ordinance to repeal the PR-5 (Urban Infill/Active Adult Planned Residential District) zoning district in its entirety.
