The Henry County Board of Commissioners, along with members of the Henry County Fire Department and Henry County Police Department, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, January 12, celebrating the completion of the Fairview Public Safety Complex. The complex is located on Fairview Road in Ellenwood and includes a new Police Precinct and Fire Station, replacing former station No. 6.
District V Commissioner Bruce Holmes shared his thoughts about the poignant day and recounted the vision and the foresight to see the necessity of a police precinct and fire station in the Fairview area. He also expressed his gratitude to the men and women of Henry County public safety and thanked the contractors involved in the project.
“When we had the idea of bringing this public safety campus closer to Fairview and Panola, it was about bringing safety closer to the commercial corridor and closer to our subdivisions, to help keep our community safe. And I think that’s what you’re going to see. Thank you to our fire department and thank you to our police department,” said Holmes.
Henry County Police Chief and Public Safety Director Mark Amerman expressed excitement over the new public safety facility. “We are very excited to get into this building. We plan on making very good use of it. We are bringing more assets up to the north end of the county to better serve our community here,” said Amerman.
The Fairview Police Precinct is a nearly 3,000 square feet building that contains a watch office, lobby, conference room, break room and staff offices.
Fire Station No. 6 is a new station to replace the original and is a three bay, 8,600 square ft., state-of-the-art facility that features sleeping quarters, a kitchen, laundry room, a common living area, a fitness room and staff offices. The station is also equipped with a new pumper truck and ambulance.
Henry County Fire Chief Jonathan Burnette said Station No. 6 will add to the great service Henry County firefighters provide to citizens on a daily basis, and expressed the importance of the station due to the growth in the county.
“Henry County Fire Department having a fire station out here in the Fairview area allows our brave men and women to extend that excellent service that we strive for every day even further out into the community,” said Burnette. “Every citizen and visitor to Henry County deserves our best, and this allows us to do that.”
Architect for the Fairview Public Safety Complex was Bill Howell with the Howell Group, Inc. of Marietta; engineer was Land Engineering of McDonough; and contractor was J.R. Bowman Construction Co. of McDonough. The $3.9 million project was made possible under the SPLOST IV and the SPLOST V initiatives.
The public was invited to tour the new facilities and meet with their local law enforcement and fire professionals and other county representatives.
The Public Safety Complex is strategically located on Fairview Road in the heart of the Ellenwood/Fairview Community, directly across from the Home Depot.
