Two commercial rezoning requests were denied and one residential rezoning request was approved at the January 5 meeting of the Henry County Board of Commissioners.
A rezoning from RA (residential agricultural) to C-1 (neighborhood commercial) was sought by a Johns Creek developer for a 1.65-acre site at 3818 North Henry Boulevard to allow a gasoline service station and convenience store. That request was denied by a 6-0 vote.
A Stockbridge firm applied for a rezoning from RA to C-3 (highway commercial) for an adjacent site, at 3860 North Henry Boulevard. This tract is six-tenths of an acre and the request was for an automotive sales facility. It was also denied 6-0.
An 89-acre piece of property at 1088 McGarity Road, just west of Airline Road on the east side of McDonough, was the subject of a residential rezoning request. Pulte Homes of Alpharetta asked for a change to R-3 (single-family residential) to allow a conservation subdivision with 128 proposed lots.
Greg Cannon made a motion to approve the request with 14 conditions that were read into the record. The motion passed 5-1 with Dee Clemmons voting in opposition.
In other business, multi-year agreements for planning and design regarding Atlanta Speedway Airport were approved, along with an annual contract for the purchase of aviation fuel and the lease of refueler trucks.
The board approved authorization of an $85,060 annual broadband data purchase for public safety radios. The continued allocation of grant funding for an early notification advocate position in the District Attorney’s office was also approved.
Bids were accepted for solid waste removal and disposal as well as fire protection system services. A resolution addressing the allocation of funds to assist nonprofits due to COVID-19 was approved, and a $23,540 bid for referee services for youth basketball was approved.
A stormwater resolution awarding a $2.284 million bid by a Kennesaw consulting firm for an update of the county’s flood plain was approved.
A $357,813 purchase of backup software using capital improvement funds was approved, as was the acquisition of 400 square feet of permanent easement at 164 Fairview Road.
