Construction resumes at Broder Farms subdivision

Everyone is back to work at Broder Farms.

Construction on the new subdivision halted a few months ago when Commissioner Bruce Holmes notified the county’s building department that certain requirements of the zoning on the property were not being met, specifically the construction standards for new homes in the development.

Holmes, in whose district the property lies, put several conditions on the subdivision when it was approved, one of which was that the homes being built there consist of brick on all sides. When driving through one day in late summer, he found that some finished homes were not in compliance with that stipulation.

That discovery led to a stop-work order being issued by the building department. After several weeks of inactivity, the issues between the builder and the county were ironed out so that the order could be lifted, according to a statement released Nov. 22 by county officials. Holmes said he is glad the project is moving forward.

“Broder Farms will meet the high standard of quality that our citizens have come to expect in our community,” he said. “Insisting and making sure that what is being built compliments and enhances the surrounding communities and neighborhoods protects home values and brings a better quality of life to District 5. I’m pleased we were able to work together on this.”
