The Georgia Archives will have two virtual presentations in December. “The Georgia Archives: A Brief Overview and Update” by State Archivist and Assistant Vice Chancellor of the University System of Georgia, Christopher Davidson, is on Friday, December 3 from noon to 1 p.m. The Lunch and Learn program, “A History of Christmas Traditions” by Andrew Bramlett is on Friday, December 10 from noon to 1:00 p.m.
On December 3, State Archivist Christopher Davidson will give a brief overview of the history of the Georgia Archives and then focus on recent activities and plans for next year.
Christopher Davidson has worked in the archives field for over 27 years, including with the Alabama Department of Archives and History and the Alabama Department of Transportation. He has been State Archivist of Georgia for over 9 years. Davidson received his BA in History and MLA with a focus on Southern Literature and History from Auburn University Montgomery, and his JD from Thomas Goode Jones School of Law.

On December 10, Andrew Bramlett will present “A History of Christmas Traditions.” We all know Santa, Christmas trees, and Rudolph, but do you know where they came from? Many classic Christmas traditions have fascinating origins, from Norse legends to marketing gimmicks. This unique presentation covers these interesting stories, along with other Christmas traditions from the past.

Fifteen-year-old Andrew Bramlett is a local historian living in Kennesaw, Georgia. He is Vice President of the Kennesaw Historical Society, and an honorary member of the Cemetery Preservation Commission for the City of Kennesaw. He volunteers with the Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Department and volunteers at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, where he is a tour guide on the shuttle bus to the top on the weekends. In addition, he is the Social Media Administrator for the Friends of Kennesaw Mountain. In 2018 he won a Georgia Historical Records Advisory Council award for Local History Advocacy because of presentations he gives about the history of the City of Kennesaw, Kennesaw Mountain, and his Kennesaw City Cemetery Walking Tour.
