A number of holiday events are already on the calendar in Henry County. Here are a few.
Downtown tree lightings are planned for Thanksgiving night in two cities as has been the case for years. Locust Grove’s festivities start at 6 p.m. at City Hall, while the event in downtown Hampton is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Also in Hampton is Cookies with Mrs. Claus, set for Saturday, December 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Train Depot. The Christmas in the Grove parade and festival in downtown Locust Grove is the same day from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The Christmas parade through downtown Hampton, “Christmas at Home,” is December 11 at 5:30 p.m.
McDonough’s annual Christmas parade has been cancelled for the second consecutive year. A “Hometown Christmas” event similar to the annual Scarecrow Showcase will give local residents the opportunity to show off their Christmas decorating skills to the community.
Registration for all of the above events is underway. Information can be found on each city’s website.
The City of Stockbridge will host a Holiday Festival and Tree Lighting on Thursday, December 2 from 5 until 9 p.m. in the Merle Manders parking lot. The event will feature a Drive-thru Holiday Wonderland with Santa and Mrs. Claus, a Live Nativity Scene, real snow and giant inflatables. There will be gift bags for the family and hot cocoa will be available for all. The Drive-thru Holiday Wonderland is open from December 2-10.
The Henry Arts Alliance is hosting its 30th annual Holiday with the Arts, billed as “a festive afternoon of art and music featuring a local artisan market and judged art show.” It is scheduled for Sunday, November 21, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 136 Hood Street in McDonough. Admission is free to the public and some refreshments will be served.
Atlanta Motor Speedway is the home this season for World of Illumination’s Arctic Adventure. Attractions include 32-foot-tall Sunny the Snowman with all of his tundra-bound friends along with your favorite holiday music and polar Christmas characters. It has been called the world’s largest animated drive-through light show and “a storybook adventure for kids of all ages.” It runs through January 2.
