The Henry County Master Gardeners have been at work refurbishing and maintaining the grounds at the pre-Civil War Nolan House, located off Lake Dow Road in McDonough. This project has been undertaken to beautify the area and bring attention to this noted home for Henry County residents to enjoy.

The Henry County Master Gardeners are presently working on upgrading historic flowers, plants, and trees on the grounds surrounding the Nolan House. Flowers from that era have been planted and line the home’s front. Visitors have been seen walking along these flower rows, taking pictures, and noting the various common and Botanical labeling of the flora. An herb garden has also been refurbished, and additional herbs have been planted and maintained there as well.

Another landscaping project undertaken by the Master Gardeners is an area along the mulched walkway lined with tree branches. Along this pathway, azaleas, ferns, lilies and other plants can be viewed. Additional plans are slated for further ground enhancement by the Henry County Master Gardeners, who thanked the Henry County Parks and Recreation Department for their upkeep of the area as well.

Henry County residents are welcome to visit and admire this ongoing beautification work project of the Master Gardeners. It is hoped that future renovation of the Nolan House will further entice the county’s residents to visit the area, admire the surroundings, and appreciate a part of the county’s history.
