Here is a rundown of what the Locust Grove City Council did at its May 17 meeting.

Approval was given to the final plat submitted for the second phase of the Nine Oaks subdivision on the south side of Peeksville Road. The site was zoned R-2 (single-family residential) in March of 2018. According to a city staff report, the final plat shows the property owner’s plan to develop the 10.4-acre tract into an 18-lot residential subdivision with each lot having a minimum size of 18,000 square feet and each house a minimum of 2,000 square feet. The vote to approve was unanimous.

An agreement with the Norfolk Southern railroad company regarding improvements at a local crossing was approved. Work on the crossing at Colvin Drive, just east of Hwy. 42 on the northern end of the city, requires widening to accommodate improvements on each side along with new crossing equipment for development of the GBLG/Scannell logistics facilities, according to officials. This is in line with a previously approved development agreement that requires full reimbursement to the city for any expenditures related to the work.

In a separate agenda item, the council approved a release and indemnification agreement with Scannell related to the same project. Both votes were unanimous.

An amendment to firearms regulations for the Locust Grove Police Department was approved by the council. The revision was necessary because of updated weapons issued to officers for use, according to a city staff report.

The amended ordinance shows that the approved weapon for on-duty personnel is a 9mm Glock or any weapon approved by the police chief. The department-issued rifle is an AR-15, and any officer who carries it is required to demonstrate proficiency with it before using it, and every year from then on. At the discretion of the police chief, certain officers who meet minimum standards can carry a Glock Model 43 as their primary duty weapon.
