The Governor’s Office of Student Achievement has announced the finalists for this year’s Governor’s Honor Program, and several students from Henry County Schools have been notified of their selection to the prestigious summer program.
Each year, over 3,000 students from across the state are nominated for the chance to participate in this unique program. Several hundred students are then selected for the program after going through the state-level application and interview process.
This year will mark the 57th summer the program has hosted students. It is the longest continually running program of its kind in the nation.
A total of nine high school students from Henry County Schools have been selected to participate in the summer enrichment program in Rome, Georgia during June and July. Five students have also been chosen as alternates in the event that another student is unable to attend the residential program.
Students had to go through several rounds of rigorous interviews to be considered and selected for the program. The process is designed to identify the best of the best 10th and 11th grade students from across the state to take part in a rich summer learning experience.
Starting Sunday, June 20 on the campus of Berry College, students’ days will be filled studying specific areas of interest. Evenings in the program are spent engaged in seminars, recreational activities, concerts, and performances. The program concludes on July 17.
According to the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement, the Governor’s Honors Program is “designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders.”
