By presidential proclamation, the month of March is officially designated as Women’s History Month, which was established in order to honor women’s contributions in American history.
In commemoration of Women’s History Month, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) established the DAR Women in History Award to honor women, past and present, for their roles in shaping American history. Recipients are selected for this recognition based upon their accomplishments and the contributions they have made in their communities.
This year, the Andrew McBride Chapter NSDAR chose Marcia Taylor, Chairman and CEO of Bennett International Group, to receive the DAR Women in History Award. On March 19, 2021, Mrs. Taylor was presented with DAR’s Certificate and Medal of Honor in recognition of her accomplishments.
Bennett International Group, headquartered in McDonough, was formed in 1974, and Mrs. Taylor took over management of the company in 1981.
Last year, Bennett was ranked No. 1 on the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s list of Top 20 Women-Owned Firms for 2020. To qualify for this recognition, companies must be at least 51% women-owned, among other criteria. Additionally, Bennett was recognized as a top transportation company for women to work for, based on several criteria, including competitive compensation, gender diversity, flexible hours, and professional development/career advancement opportunities.
Mrs. Taylor and Bennett are also supporters of veterans and veterans’ initiatives. One that is near and dear to her heart is Wreaths Across America, a 501c3 organization, whose mission is to honor the service of our country’s deceased veterans by placing a memorial wreath on veteran gravesites in cemeteries located throughout the United States. Bennett International has been a sponsor since 2017, and the company hosts an annual kick-off event at its headquarters in McDonough.
Last year, Bennett sponsored over 10,000 wreaths that were delivered and placed on graves at Andersonville National Cemetery by Bennett employees, many of whom are veterans themselves. To date, Bennett has donated over 45,000 wreaths to this cause.
In 2001, Bennett International, under Mrs. Taylor’s leadership, deployed resources to assist with the recovery from the terrorist attacks on 9/11.
Mrs. Taylor also is the CEO of the Taylor Family Foundation, which donates a percentage of profits to nonprofit organizations. She serves as a board member of the Museum of the Bible, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, National Museum of Wildlife Art, Horatio Alger and St. John’s Hospital.
In 2006, Henry Medical Center named its women’s center the Marcia G. Taylor Women’s Center to honor Mrs. Taylor’s contributions to health care in Henry County.
A decade later, in 2016, Mrs. Taylor received an Honorary Doctorate of Commerce from Clayton State University and the Horatio Alger Award for Distinguished Americans, and she was inducted as a member of this prestigious organization in 2017.
Officials of the Georgia State Society Daughters of the American Revolution say they are proud to recognize Mrs. Taylor for her achievements and her contributions to our community.
“We are very excited that the Andrew McBride chapter chose to honor Mrs. Taylor and wishes to partner with Bennett International, LLC to help with fundraising efforts and promotion of Wreaths Across America,” says OB McCorkle, Georgia DAR State Regent. “The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a proud sponsor of National Wreaths Across America Day, and many chapters throughout the State of Georgia participate in this worthy opportunity to honor fallen soldiers.”
