The Stockbridge High School JROTC program just got a financial boost in the form of a $1,500 donation from American Legion Post 330.

  “This is the third year we have received a donation from them,” said Stockbridge principal Eric Watson. “The two previous years it was $1,000. This year, even with the pandemic, they gave more.”

  The money will go toward a scholarship for a specific ROTC student who is a senior this year and plans to attend a two-year or four-year college. The program’s instructors will vote on which cadet gets the scholarship, based on excellence at school and financial need.

  There are 160 student cadets in the Stockbridge High School JROTC program this year. While nothing at school this year could be classified as normal, the cadets have adapted well, according to Watson.

  “They have done a lot of work online, of course,” he said. “There have been some activities, like drill practices, that they have been able to do face to face.”

  The unit has been cited as outstanding for more than a decade, Watson said. “Our ROTC Unit is awesome. It’s really a great program.”
