Henry County District V Commissioner Bruce Holmes, along with county leadership and staff, broke ground on the North Henry Public Safety and Wellness Complex on Friday, February 19 in Ellenwood.

The new complex will feature a 2,918 square-foot police precinct with a secure lobby, a conference room, two offices, an area for six cubicles and a breakroom; Station No. 6, an 8,639 square-foot, three-bay fire station, with sleeping quarters for eight, a full kitchen with a pantry, laundry, a dining room, fitness room, shift office and lobby; and multi-purpose sports fields that include two soccer/lacrosse fields, sports field lighting, a concession and restroom building, eight feet walking paths and 226 parking spaces.

Holmes was appreciative of the work done by citizens voting for SPLOST V and allowing it to fund this project. He also thanked county personnel and the construction and architect companies for their involvement.

“This is truly a great day, not just for the Fairview Community and North Henry County, but it’s a great day for all of our public safety personnel and the entire county as a whole. Thank you so much,” said Holmes. “I’m looking forward to getting this project constructed, getting it going and getting it built. I’m looking forward to improving response times for both fire and police, and I’m looking forward to keeping our citizens safe.”

Police Chief Mark Amerman, Fire Chief Luther Phillips and Emergency Management Agency Director Don Ash each shared remarks thanking Holmes for the opportunity to improve the quality of life for the citizens of the county through the new public safety campus.

Bill Howell with the Howell Group Inc. of Marietta, GA is the architect for this project and J.R. Bowman Construction Co. of McDonough, GA will be the contractor. The design and build cost for the police precinct and fire station is approximately $3.9 million and multi-purpose sports fields cost approximately $2.6 million. The $6.5 million project was made possible under the SPLOST V initiative that was approved by the voters in 2020.

The new police precinct will be located at 16 Fairview Road; Fire Station No. 6 will be located at 30 Fairview Road; and the multi-purpose sports fields will be located at 1935 Panola Road.
