Concrete rehabilitation on I-75 in Henry

Motorists going to and from Atlanta at night over the next several months will have to maneuver through construction zones with possible delays.

The northernmost stretch of I-75 in Henry County is the site of a concrete rehabilitation project that began last week and is expected to be finished next summer. Crews are working to replace and rehab six miles of roadway in Henry and Clayton counties, from just south of the Hwy. 54 interchange in Morrow (Exit 233) to just south of the Walt Stephens Road overpass in Stockbridge.

According to officials with the Georgia Department of Transportation, the work will be done seven nights a week in overnight shifts, weather permitting, and will continue into the morning hours in the southbound lanes. There will be scheduled lane closures to protect work crews as well as motorists.

For work in the northbound lanes, single lane closures start at 7 p.m. every night except Friday with double lane closures from 8 p.m. until 7 a.m. the next day. Single lane closures start an hour later every Friday night, with double lane closures at 10 p.m.

On the southbound side, single lane closures start at 8 p.m. weeknights and move to double lane closures two hours later, shifting back to single lane closures at 7 a.m. and continuing until noon. Double lane closures start at 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, going back to a single lane at 8 a.m. and continue until 10 a.m. Sunday or noon Monday.

Message boards have been installed at various locations around the project in addition to the permanent over-the-highway signage so that motorists can be alerted to lane closures and traffic slowdowns. Information will also be shared on Georgia DOT West’s Facebook and Twitter feeds when necessary.

Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. To receive real-time information on work status and traffic conditions even before leaving home, call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
