Main Street McDonough has been designated as an Accredited Main Street America program for the 20th consecutive year. Being named as a Main Street America Accredited community is a mark of distinction that signifies commitment to comprehensive revitalization, community engagement, and outcome measurement. Programs awarded with Accreditation must have a proven track record of success in planning, implementing, and measuring results that align with the Main Street Approach.

The performance of Main Street McDonough is evaluated annually by the Georgia Main Street Program, which works in partnership with Main Street America to identify local programs that meet the ten rigorous performance standards developed by the National Main Street Center. These standards place an emphasis on historic preservation education as well as economic development lending itself to an active and vibrant downtown.

President and CEO of the National Main Street Center, Patrice Fey, said “We are proud to recognize this year’s 860 Nationally Accredited Main Street America programs that have dedicated themselves to strengthening their communities. These Accredited Main Street programs have proven to be powerful engines for revitalization by sparking impressive economic returns and preserving the character of their communities. During these challenging times, these Main Street programs will be key to bringing economic vitality back to commercial districts and improving quality of life during the recovery process.”

Main Street McDonough is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the downtown district through partnerships with local business owners, residents, and community members. Recent collaborative efforts include utility box art wraps, new led lighting, digital recognition of graduating seniors, daily downtown social media series, etc. For the latest information on the downtown district, follow Main Street on Facebook at www.facebook.com/MainStreetMcDonoughProgram.

Keith Sweat, Chair of the Main Street McDonough Advisory Board, stated, “It is an especially exciting time to be a part of the downtown business district of McDonough. With new investors, new businesses, and an arts and culture explosion happening, Main Street McDonough plays the role of a bridge between the economic interest of the business climate and the City of McDonough.  Working with the very supportive leadership of Mayor and Council, Main Street is able to shape the business climate as well as the aesthetics of our beautiful downtown so that it remains safe, vibrant, and current with today’s lifestyles.”
