Sally and Jim Chafin of McDonough took a recent trip to the World War II Museum in New Orleans. Sally and Jim are standing in front of a B-24, which is the plane that Jim’s father, James T. Chafin Jr. piloted in WWII.
Jim is holding the rip cord that was used when Jim’s father bailed out after being shot down. Jim’s father was able to get his plane back across friendly forces’ line in Italy before parachuting out and landing safely. After being returned to his base, he continued on to fly 35 combat missions.
Hey my Dad was also a B-24 pilot in WW-2 and flew 28 missions. I would love for Jim Chafin to contact me and tell me more about his Dad. Jim Hagelthorn
