On Friday, April 24, Wesley Chapel UMC, in a partnership with Shiloh Baptist Church, delivered 300 catered lunches from Firehouse Subs in Stockbridge to medical workers at Piedmont Henry Hospital. Members of both congregations gathered in their vehicles to honk their horns, flash their lights and yell out ‘thank you’ to the medical staff present outside the hospital. “The staff and medical team, all came outside and stood on the sidewalk. I think they were taking as many pictures as we were,” said Rev. Dr. William B. Neal III of Wesley Chapel UMC.
They also gathered in front of the hospital for a prayer of safety over the first responders and their families. “We prayed over the staff and told them how much we appreciated what they’re doing for us in the community and being on the front lines for us. So then we prayed for their families as they go back home at the end of the day,” said Rev. Neal.
“I think Rev. Neal and myself, we just wanted to be a part of the community that was recognizing the important work that the doctors and workers and technicians at the hospital are doing, especially during this time of the coronavirus,” said Rev. Dr. E.W. Lee of Shiloh Baptist Church. “We think that our people really enjoyed it. I thought we had a good turnout. The prayer and all was great. We hope that the professionals at the hospital felt the love and the concern and support that we were trying to express.”
