Alvin Eugene Vaughn
Alvin Eugene “Gene” Vaughn went to be with the Lord on April 8, 2020. He passed away at his home in Stockbridge, Ga., following a nine-month illness. Gene was born February 15, 1941, in Atlanta, Ga., He graduated from O’Keef High School, attended Georgia Tech, and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia State College in 1967. After graduating from college, Gene founded A. E. Vaughn & Associates, a surveying company, which he owned and operated until he retired. Gene’s talents and hobbies included golf, photography, painting, wood working, building, and repairing most anything that stopped working. However, he believed his most important accomplishments were anything that he did to further the work of the Lord. As a 1977 founding member of Liberty Baptist Church in Stockbridge, Ga. Gene used his talents to help procure land and facilities, establish the governing body for the church, and lay the foundation for the church’s mission program, which continues today. Gene wants to be remembered for loving and serving his savior, Jesus Christ. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Ruby Brackett Vaughn, brother, Neal Vaughn, and sister, Nancy Vaughn Pass.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Charlotte Channell Vaughn, daughter, Alison Vaughn Guthrie (David Stinson), son, Clayton Vaughn (Charlotte), sister, Joan Vaughn Feltner (Eli), brother-in-law, Phillip Pass, grandsons, Blake Guthrie and Brandon Guthrie, and several, much-loved, nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Liberty Baptist Church Designated Mission’s Fund at https:// www.lbcstockbridge.org/give. Charlotte Glass Colwell
Miss. Charlotte Glass Colwell, age 77, of Locust Grove, Ga., passed away Saturday, April 11, 2020. She was born in Jackson, Ga., to the late Elmo Ponder Colwell and Jewell Glass Colwell. Charlotte was a member of Fellowship Presbyterian Church and recently had been attending Locust Grove United Methodist Church. She retired from Dowling Textiles and loved to work in her yard and gardening. She loved children and doting on her cats. She was preceded in death by siblings; Milton Colwell, Elmo Colwell, Jr., George Colwell, Marlin Colwell, Kathryn Colwell Cobb, Miriam Colwell McKibben and Josephine Bevil.
Survivors include her siblings; Olin (Betty Rose) Colwell, Johnny (Martha) Colwell, Annette Colwell Elder, Peggy Colwell Braswell, Polly Colwell Brown and Patsy (Terry) Colwell Avery; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
